The Size

Saturday 7th December • Doors Open – 7:45pm

Cumbrian band The Size formed during the latter stages of the Covid pandemic in 2021. Originally comprising a trio with Nick Barnes (Guitar), Jake Metcalfe (Drums) & Mick Baeron (Bass) they had a shared vision: to get back to music and write orginal songs. Progress was made; however, it became obvious early on that the band needed a lead vocal. A timely introduction brought in Sarah Case – an experienced singer-songwriter and keyboard player. With the foundations well and truly in place, the band spent the first half of 2022 penning a fledgling original set before making their live debut that summer. Several solid gigs and a self-produced three track debut EP later, it was time to finalise the line up with addition of Peppi Aglioli on drums. This allowed musical polymath Jake to switch to guitar and play the perfect foil for Nick in building depth to the band’s sound.

United by a passion for music and broad musical interests, The Size won’t be easily locked into a genre, relishing creating original music and fusing styles. Their collaborative approach to songwriting brings together strong melody and lyrics inspired by decades of life experience, crafted into creative, energetic arrangements. With so many influences across their musical palette, they seamlessly move between rock, funk with a dash of pop and even disco to deliver an exciting and varied up-tempo set.

Anyone who’s seen the band play will testify to their energetic, authentic, and full live sound. Their songs represent experience and reflection but still remain hopeful – not just in music but in life – Whether its realising life has reached a crossroads with Wild Unknown, a scathing yet satirical comment on the culture of buy now-pay later in Church of Never Never, or the impact on people’s lives from lockdown in My Cognition, their songs reflect real life and real issues.  They are also not afraid to push boundaries in their musical storytelling, including a satirical love song from the point of view of a notorious serial killer (Milwaukee).

The last 12 months has been a busy and exciting time for the band with 9 new tracks released on all major streaming platforms and further new material to come.  They have also continued to hone their live sound with several high-profile gigs across Cumbria and Lancashire.
