Mike Rolland is an accomplished singer-songwriter who specializes in acoustic contemporary folk music. Rolland has been passionately crafting and performing his music for over 30 years with a growing reputation for his unique lyrics, impressive guitar skills, and heartfelt live performances. Born and raised on the Fylde Coast, Rolland’s early days were defined by hard work, perseverance, and a deep appreciation for the natural beauty of the region. As a young boy, he first picked up the guitar, and quickly became enamoured with the storytelling possibilities of music.
As an artist, Rolland has always prioritized honesty and authenticity in his song writing. His lyrics draw from his personal experiences, and explore themes of local history, love, loss, and the complex emotional landscape of modern life. Throughout his career, Mike has honed his skills as a live performer, captivating audiences with his warm and engaging stage presence. Whether performing solo or with his band, Rolland’s performances are marked by a passionate commitment to his craft, and an unwavering dedication to his audience. Despite this there have been relatively few album releases. There are two Phantom voices studio albums released to critical acclaim, earning praise for thoughtful lyrics, intricate guitar work, and impeccable vocal work.
Mike’s music combines elements of traditional folk with a contemporary sensibility, resulting in a sound that is uniquely his own. A new studio album is due out in September 2023, the first as a solo musician. Named ‘Down to the Wyre’ it features songs written about the changing face of Fleetwood with the waning of industry in a town whose main economy was based on fishing for many decades. With a growing following of loyal fans, and an ever-expanding body of work, Mike Rolland is poised to continue making waves in the world of acoustic contemporary folk music for years to come.
