Dan McKinnon is an outstanding folk musician from Nova Scotia in Canada with unparalleled song writing skills. He has a voice that could fill a castle. He connects and engages beautifully with his audience taking them on a storytelling journey from start to finish. Many of his songs have a maritime theme,
With seven CDs to credit, Dan is well established in his native Canada. He has been nominated for numerous folk awards. Dan is equally happy on large festival stages as in smaller folk club venues. Dan is currently touring the UK, guitar in hand. We are lucky to have him in Arnside.
The event is held in partnership with Lakeland Folk and Acoustic Club who run our monthly folk sing around in winter on the second Tuesday afternoon of each month.
Timings
The session will start at 1.30 pm with singers from the floor. Dan will then perform two 45 minute sets starting at 2.15 pm with interval in between. Doors open at 1 pm.
Video – Bluenose Kitchen Party
Watch Dan playing his song about Bluenose, a Canadian racing fishing schooner that won the International Fishermen’s Race in 1921 beating the American challenger. Bluenose went onto win the race several times becoming a Canadian national symbol. Such was her fame, Bluenose appeared on a Canadian stamp in 1928 and was added to the Canadian dime in 1937. Bluenose sunk off Haiti in 1946, but a replica was made in 1963. You can see a video about the replica here
